VICENTE PEREZ (Special Envoy) | La Restinga

La Restinga is showing signs of volcanic activity with the arrival of more gas, foam and volcanic material to its port, originating from the submarine eruption for more than a month occurring under the sea a mile from this village.

Special envoys visited Diario De Avisios Sunday morning in La Restinga and ascertained the smell of volcanic gases in the port environment in which stagnant water could be seen sparkling stains the entrance of of volcanic material (without observing pyroclastic ) and dead fish, including some cephalopods.

The stench is nauseating at times, causing some respiratory discomfort if a person gets too close to the sea, even in the neighborhood there is a mobile unit for measuring air quality continuously and the authorities have decreed any access restrictions.

Sources from the National Geographic Institute (IGN) also indicated that if warned that these concentrations are harmful to health , measures would be taken, which has not happened yet.

The currents also has drawn a long patch of brown foam, broken down into discrete points, in which fish are dead, that has been accumulating on Sunday. The entire coast is also affected by the fumes of sulfur and other gases that leave a green color, today, solar radiation and the lack of clouds, very visible in contrast to the blue of the ocean is not exposed to these fumes .

The green patch extends from north to south and South East,, giving headlong into the Sea of Calms, opposite El Julan, a marine reserve housing a rich biodiversity, the victim now an authentic holocaust.

By the streets were some residents, including with a review with some fishermen at the dock, but overall the atmosphere is one of loneliness. Yesterday opened a few bars, including the El Refugio, one of the proprieters, Alexis Morales, who showed their intention to continue to open their business every day, even among its customers abound with geologists and journalists covering the volcanic eruption .

The Bubbling is Once Again Seen

Focused around the volcano, where on Sunday a slight bubble has reappeared and is clearly identified with a brown hue, the vessel Ramon Margalef , oceanographic research, conducting biometrics, in an attempt to find out, how much of the surface area is the focus eruption. The latest data was known on 28 October, when the submarine was top of the crater 180 meters from the surface and the base 300, an open space at the foot of an area that the fishermen called La Tablada. (The Table)

"If It had gone out via the table, there is less than 200 meters deep, but where it came from the volcano there is a valley and Hundur growing fast," said a fisherman yesterday, skeptical about the chances that the crater ends up coming to the surface. "We have to give time," said geologist today the team that makes the official monitoring the eruption.
